The Trucks Serving the Community

What’s with all the “6s”?

When the fire departments in Nolan County were laid out, Roscoe was the 6th department assigned radio numbers. They started with Sweetwater as 1, then went clockwise through the county. This meant all Roscoe firefighters were issued radio numbers in the 600s. The fire service is rooted in tradition, so we took our 600 numbers and embraced them. We now refer to the department as “Station 6” and have changed all our apparatus numbers to start with “6”. Brush 65 and 68 were already called “Brush 6” and “Brush 8”, so we changed them to “65” and “68”. If we were to get a second engine, it would likely be called “Engine 61”, just like our new tender will be called “Tender 61” since we already have a “Tender 6”. Now you know!
