The Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department (RVFD) has stood as a pillar of safety, service, and resilience in Nolan County, Texas since its founding in 1906. What began as a small group of dedicated citizens armed with little more than buckets and determination has grown into a highly trained, community-focused firefighting and emergency response team. For over a century, the RVFD has answered the call—whether it's battling structure fires, responding to severe weather emergencies, or providing mutual aid throughout West Texas.
Throughout the decades, the department has been on the frontlines of some of the region’s most significant and challenging events. From the devastating wildfires that swept across the rolling plains during the 2011 Texas drought to emergency response efforts during severe storms, floods, and tornado threats, our volunteers have continually demonstrated courage and commitment. Each incident has not only tested our resolve but also strengthened our unity and purpose.

The department purchased its first new fire apparatus in the mid-1930s with a 1938 Pearce Town and Country engine. The ‘38 as it’s called is still at the station and serves as a reminder of the departments history and commitment to providing the best service possible to the community.
In recent years, the Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department has expanded its focus on emergency medical services, with a growing number of trained EMTs now serving within the department. The department has committed to sending members to EMS training at no cost to the member. This is in partnership with Axon and Texas EMS School.
Our team is equipped to provide first response medical care at the scene of medical emergencies, including motor vehicle crashes, which make up a significant portion of our annual calls. With faster response times and expanding medical capabilities, we are proud to serve the community as first responders when seconds count.
Our department remains 100% volunteer-run, built on the dedication of local men and women who selflessly give their time to protect and serve. That same commitment is also shaping the future through our Junior Firefighter Program, which offers local youth hands-on experience in fire safety, teamwork, and community service. This program not only prepares the next generation of first responders but ensures the RVFD remains strong for years to come.
As we honor our long and proud history, we also look ahead with a clear vision for growth and excellence. RVFD is committed to expanding training, upgrading equipment, and continuing to build a well-rounded emergency response team.
